Internal vs. External Coaching Programs

The benefits of coaching for leadership development have been touted for many years. Most of the research in the past points to the benefits of external coaching and shows less success with internal coaching programs. Some recent studies are now pointing to internal coaching program success. Here is what we learn from the studies. It seems the three biggest factors in determining an internal coaching programs success are; time to do the coaching, whether the coaches are perceived as credible, and whether the coaching sessions were perceived as confidential.

In a project we lovingly call “Design on a Dime” meets “The Apprentice” our March 2006 Management Incubator class took on the planning and renovation of the two dorm rooms at The Volunteers of America Boys' Group Home on North 22nd in Baton Rouge which houses 8 boys.
