Teams from the Success Labs September 2006 Leadership Coaching Series competed for best special event fundraiser in a project to benefit Youth Oasis. Participants from Cox Communications, Honeywell, Albemarle, Woman’s Hospital, Our Lady of the Lake RMC, Guaranty Group and PCS Nitrogen were divided into two teams. Their task was to develop a concept and business plan for a new signature event that would raise money, increase awareness and become an annual Youth Oasis special event.
Harvard MBA and former Washington Bullets CEO, Reverend Garnett Slatton of The River Community Church, challenged the Success Labs Management Incubator class with a provocative discussion on business ethics. Slatton used real world examples to confront participants on how their values and beliefs may be challenged in everyday business scenarios. In one case study, participants took on the role of a surgical Nurse Supervisor with a team of six nurses. When she must make budget cuts in the form a eliminating a position she must personally weigh the pros and cons of her decision as well as the impact on individual employees, the team and the organization.
